It has come to the attention of ComChart Medical Software that several EMR companies have attempted to dissuade physicians from purchasing ComChart EMR because ComChart Medical Software is a small company and, according to them, this could put your patient's medical records at risk.
Although it is true that ComChart Medical Software is a small company, ComChart EMR has been in development since 1991 and installing ComChart EMR into physician practices since about 1999. This is far longer than most EMR companies have been in existence. It has been a conscious decision to keep ComChart Medical Software a "small" company. ComChart Medical Software hires contract employees on a "as needed" and temporary basis. To date, this has included marketing people, attorneys, business executives, software engineers and others. Hiring people on an "as needed basis" has helped to keep our operating costs under control and has so far ensured our financial solvency while guaranteeing the availability of funds for the ongoing development of ComChart EMR.
More importantly, history has repeatedly shown that the size and financial resources of an EMR company is not a guarantee of long term viability. Many large and well funded EMR companies have either gone out of business or merged with other companies, as the economics of EMR pricing has changed. As a result, many physicians have been forced to either switch their EMR to the company's newest EMR or risk continuing to use an unsupported EMR.
As I will be in practice for least another 1.5 or 2 decades, and I intend to continue to develop and refine ComChart EMR for my practice, I can guarantee that ComChart will be in existence for least another 1-2 decades. More importantly, should I die during a parachuting or deep-sea diving accident or cease to provide support for ComChart EMR, ComChart Medical Software will give ComChart users the master passwords and the name of a software developer who will be capable of further developing or modifying ComChart EMR as per your needs. This guarantee of long term viability is stronger than any warranty the "large" EMR companies can or will provide. The only real guarantee the "large" EMR companies can offer is their expectation that they will continue to support their EMR as long as it is profitable for their owners and investors.
I encourage you to contact the ComChart users. At this point in time, (and without any substantial advertising) ComChart Medical Software has several dozen healthcare providers scattered around the USA (including AK, AL, CA, CT, FL, GA, MA, MI, MO, NC, NE, NH, NJ, NY, OH, OK, SC, TX, VT and others ) who are happily using ComChart. You will find that the ComChart users (some of whom had purchased one or more EMRs before they finally decided to stay with ComChart) are universally happy with ComChart EMR and the support provided by ComChart Medical Software. This is demonstrated by the fact that, to date, we have not had a physician who has installed ComChart EMR in their office and subsequently abandon it for another EMR. Few EMR companies can make this claim.
