Yes, ComChart will look for an exact match between the prescribed medication and the medications listed on the patient's allergy list. It will warn you of a drug allergy only if it finds an exact match. For example, if the patient’s allergy list contains "amoxicillin" and you prescribe "ampicillin," ComChart will not notify you that the patient is allergic to ampicillin. Similarly, if you list “sulfa’ on the allergy list and prescribe Bacterium, it will not warn you. However, if you prescribe sulfamethoxazole, it will warn you of a possible drug allergy as the word “sulfa” appears within the word “sulfamethoxazole.”
