CCHIT certification of EMRs
ComChart Medical Software will make every attempt to ensure that ComChart EMR meets or exceeds all EMR standards.

On May 1, 2006, the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology (CCHIT) published "certification guidelines" for ambulatory EMRs. We believe ComChart EMR meets these standards.

Unfortunately, the fee to apply for "CCHIT certification" is $28,000. Further, the total cost of the entire certification process (for those who have been through it) is reported to be in excess of $200,000. In addition, vendors have reported the annual cost of maintaining certification is in excess of $100,000 a year.

At this point in time, we believe our current clients will be better served if we put our resources toward the continual improvement in ComChart EMR, rather than spending our resouces attempting to satisfy arbitrary (and sometimes irrelevant) "standards." We will periodically reassess this issue in the future.

Here you will find the 2006 "CCHIT certification guidelines" and our perception of our compliance with their guidelines requirements.

On June 1, 2006, CCHIT told us we can no longer post the above CCHIT document. The posted document was CCHIT's "Functionality Criteria for 2006;" superimposed on their document was a demonstration of the features which are (and are not) functional in ComChart EMR v9.1L. Here is a censored version of the document.
